What AI, AGI, and the Metaverse Mean for the Future of Humanity w/ Alvin W. Graylin | EP #104
Alvin W. Graylin discusses the definition and future of the metaverse, emphasizing the role of AI, XR, and lighter devices in transforming our relationship with computing and daily life. The conversation discusses the potential of AI and XR technologies in shaping the future, particularly the metaverse, and addresses privacy concerns and societal impacts. The podcast discusses the concerns and potential societal impacts of AI and robotics, including job displacement, the need for rapid societal adaptation, and the role of the metaverse in providing alternative economies and promoting global unity. The podcast discusses the importance of global cooperation in space exploration and AI development, emphasizing the risks of sovereign AI and the benefits of a decentralized approach. Discussion on the use of AI in cybersecurity, the challenges of centralized vs. decentralized computing, and th
“so you know uh the distinction between AR and VR are going to really meld away and I I think that's really going to be important because that's when people start to say okay I can actually wear this outside it's it's both socially acceptable and it's comfortable and it gives me an added superpower of essentially being able to see anything have access to all of my information instead of pulling a screen out of my pocket have a screen that's in my in front of my face when I need it but at the same time it can go away and I can see through it and be able to to have uh connection with the the physical IAL space that I'm that and when that happens we we will people will will uh will not be debating whether this is going to happen right”
Your call:
openAlvin W. Graylin: We will get to Ready Player One-like immersive capabilities in the future.
“you can turn on History mode and as I'm walking down the streets of of Manhattan it can show me what the buildings were 100 years ago or tell me what famous thing occurred here or if I turn on shopping mode it can tell me um and if I'm looking for a particular you know wristwatch or jacket it can show me what's inside the stores as I'm going forward or if I turn on you know physics mode as as cars are accelerating I can equations I can be learning 24/7 so it can be an AI overlay on my favorite mode”
Your call:
openAlvin W. Graylin: Society will need to adapt to the speed of change brought by AI and XR technologies.
“so so I really I really hope the the you know this was just just a short-term issue because of the elections that will go back to where we have been for the last 20 30 years where there was a lot of cooperation and the growth you know there was more growth out of China uh over the last 30 years then you know since almost the rest of the world combin in in terms of economic GDP growth”
Your call:
openAlvin W. Graylin: If we create one giant resource for AI, it will become smarter.
“the more compute you give some AI system the more data you give some AI system and the more parameters you give that AI system it will become smarter”
Your call:
openUnknown: GP5 will have the capability to perform tasks currently done by humans in a few months.
“they can run at you know at you know 10x or a million x speed and we'll see okay well is this a dangerous AI or not”
